2012 i know its not doomsday or anything, but solar flare?
okay so i was so scared when i heard 12/21/1012.But after all the times i have asked, the main response is its not going to happen. Well at least the world will not end. Now they are saying there is going to be a major solar flare, unlike any one we have had before. Power lines will be knocked out and who knows how long it will take to repair and many people will die because they do not how to live without these things.So i have done research and i cant find out much information on it but i watched a documentary on it on the history channel. We have solar flares every 20 years or so but this one is supposed to be the worst so far and most dangerous. What do you know about this. Any links would be helpful. Away from the world of crank websites and doomsday nutcases, no-one is predicting any major solar flare. We have solar flares all the time, not just in particular years. The largest solar flare ever recorded took place in 2003: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3242353.stm

The next solar maximum is expected to be lower than the last one in 2001 and the lowest since 1928: http://solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/images/ssn_predict_l.gif
Do you remember all those power grids being knocked out in 2001? Probably not because it didn't happen.
If you want sensible facts about this sort of thing, you won't find it on the History Channel. A lot of disaster footage grabs the viewers. Any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental.
