Why doesn't the History Channel change its name already?
This station used to air interesting shows that actually had to do with history, and I always enjoyed it.
As of the last year or so, all they seem to play is this non-stop doom and gloom nonsense like: Life After People, Armageddon, Doomsday 2012, Nostradamus, and so many more..
If its not that its usually reality shows, Ice Road Truckers, Ax men, Pawn Stars, American Pickers and so on..
Not that these are terrible shows, but is this a sign of the dumbing down of America or what? This station used to have so many more neat shows that actually involved history.
Its the same way with Discovery, you used to turn that station on and you had an 80% chance that it would be a camera man exploring animals in the jungle and so on.. Now its all reality shows and entertainment.
Yeah...History Channel needs to dial it back a bit on the reality shows. Though I do loves me some Gangland.
And the Apocalypse documentaries need to stop. I get it. We're all screwed. Now show a nazi fighter blowing up on grainy film so I can yell "Greatest generation bitches!"
Discovery though I think has cleaned house substantially. They had those awful building shows for the longest time like American Choppers and Monster Garage. At least with shows about climbing mount Everest, Deadliest Catch, and Dirty Jobs there is some amount of "discovery" happening when you see something you might not otherwise get a chance to. Note how I left out Ghost Lab and Man vs. Wild.
