EL 2012 CALENDARIO MAYA.
The Great Maya History & Mystery
I'm going to ask a lot of questions, but have no answers. However, is't the mystery of life more about questions than answers, unless you're a religious, literal, fundamentalist, and then you already KNOW all of the ANSWERS! There are so many rhetorics (and it's going to increase greatly) about the Mayan calendar and the end date December 21, 2012, but what about the Mayans themselves? What's up with these people?
How about if we just push back a bit and look at the history & mystery of the Maya themselves?
>Where did they come from?
>Why did they vanish out of thin air?
>How did they know the things that we've only recently been able to discover with the aid of computers and satellites?
Those are just a few of the questions that is a part of the December 21, 2012 lore. I mean, who were these people that built elaborate cities, temples, pyramids, court, monuments, and solar models that we're only now being able to interpret and understand. How did they just suddenly turn up in the jungles of Southern Mexico, Belize, Honduras and northern Guatemala, become a splash of enlightenment and consciousness and then just disappear? No one knows and yet those mysteries for me are even greater than why 12-21-2012.
Archaeologist Charles Gallenkamp wrote, "No one has satisfactorily explained where or when the Maya civilization originated or how it evolved in an environment so hostile to human habitation." Anthropology professor emeritus, Michael D. Coe wrote, " The Classic Maya had a very elaborate calendar, polychrome pottery, and a very sophisticated art style expressed in bas-reliefs and in wall paintings." In other words, the Mayans were a mystery in many ways.
Who were they really?
Where did they come from?
Why wer they here so briefly?
And, where did they go?
As I said, no answer- just questions; questions that are deserving of our dedication to find an answer for?

mm-dd-yyyy is used primarily in the US, Canada and other similar territories, whereas dd-mm-yyyy is used in almost all other territories. I chose yyyy-mm-dd it because it's the ISO 8601 date format recognised internationally and is used everywhere. I prefer it as it's computationally sequential without parsing strings first. Call it a hang-up of my past interest in coding.
