Was Global Warming Scare the Bridge between the Y2K Scare and the 2012 End of the World Scare?
It seems many people need to have panic in their lives. Y2K was the last scare, the 2012 end of the world is the next scare.
Was so-called "Global Warming" the scare that was to bridge the gap between Y2K and 2012?
1. Global warming is a reality, or at least it is based on the irrefutable fact that the atmosphere is accumulating carbon dioxide. I do not care what paid, politically motivated liars are saying, that is true. But it's a lot slower process than you' might think. In 50 years the climate will be much the same, maybe a tad warmer on average. That's about it.
2. Y2K - the computer bug was real. It did not affect all computers but it did affect some older ones or those running programs originating in the 1950s and 1960s. When new programs are written, not all routines are new, they usually take routines that have been in use for decades because they know they work and use them. The problem was that many of the old routines did not allow for the transition 99 to 00. On January 1, 2000 there were reports of a few computer failures from around the world but not many because most had been fixed before the day. Yes, it is true that the media blew what was a minor problem up into a supposed major one.
3. The other thing was that the usual religious twits, cranks and liars were predicting the end of the world because of the thousand year thing. Book of Daniel, blah blah, Book of Revelation, yadda yadda drivel snork drool. That was supposed to be in 2000, independent of anything to do with computers. There was also a supposed prophecy from dear old Nostradamus that there would be some world disaster in 1999. On top of that there were lies about the planets lining up and doubtless other stuff that I never heard about then.
4. This time the main lies are about the Mayan calendar, plus subsidiary lies about dear old Nosty again, planets lining up, stray planets, galactic line ups and all the rest that you may have heard. Apart from that, the world was supposed to be hit by a stray planet in May 2003. That has been postponed to 2012 to fit in with the lies about the Mayan day count.
5. Some people made dollars out of the 1999 - 2000 scare, some made dollars out of the 2003 thing. They are at it again for 2012. When 2012 passes without event, they will be at it again for some year between 2018 and 2025. It takes that long for a new generation of kids who knew nothing of past "prophecies" to get old enough to have a bit of money in their pockets but still be young enough to fool easily.
The bridge between these is fraud for money, the associated lies and the crack-pot maunderings of pig-ignorant and often money grubbing evangelical preachers who keep on predicting the return of Jesus for a few months or years time. This keeps the idea of the end of the world "soon" in the minds of the dim witted and the undereducated. When some plausible nonsense that sounds like science but is actually the opposite is dredged up, they'll believe it.
