Poll: 2012, the world ending... Is it legitimate or a crock of crap?

Now, I've done my research on this. I usually dont feed into the whole end of the world prophecies too much. Its usually a scheme to make money. However, there are a lot of coincidenes going on with this year, particularly the date Dec 21. Nobody really knows, but whats your opinion?

The coincidences are there because they have been cooked up to be there.

Start with the fact that maybe 30 years ago scholars deciphered Mayan inscriptions. These showed that one of the Mayan cyclical long counts of days ended and was intended to re-start on 21 or 23 December 2012 by our calendar.

Several years later Jose Arguelles, who now calls himself Valum Voltan and claims to be an reincarnated Mayan priest predicted that this would lead to a great change in the world, but he didn't say a global disaster.

That sort of thing sells to woo-woos but it isn't frightening enough to sell really big.

The global disaster stuff started when Nancy Lieder's planet X failed to arrive in mid 2003, so she transferred it to 2012 to fit in with with the so-called prophecies that were circulating quietly about 2012 among the woo-woo crowd.

That sort of thing sells better than just some sort of change, so several others have jumped on the bandwagon with the same "prophecies" that were trotted out for the year 2000, given a new year.

All this stuff is either insane ramblings or vicious lies. The supposed coincidences are entirely lies.

There will be no planetary or galactic alignments, those are lies. Even if they were true, which they most assuredly are not, there would be no effect.

We will not cross the galactic central plane, the best guess seems to be that the Earth did that three million years ago and is currently heading away from it, we will be back in about 30 million years.

The "photon belt" was invented in Germany in the early 1950s by a typical woo-woo and is supposed to be around the Seven Sisters. It does not exist and our solar system is moving away from them anyway.

The Bible Code book was shown to be a fake 13 years ago. Nostradamus is obscure and some of his verses are known to have been invented long after he died, mostly very recently. If the stories are true, Edgar Cayce did some remarkable things 80 years ago but they were all to do with things that existed in his time. When he tried to predict the future, he failed. If he was right, half of California should be under the Pacific Ocean by several years ago. The Chinese, Egyptians and others say nothing about 2012. An so on and on and on and on and on - - - -
