Independent Daniel Imperato Offers to Negotiate Nuclear Talks Between US and Iran

With Iran positioned to be in talks with the US and six other countries in the next round of G20 meetings in Pittsburgh, former independent presidential candidate Daniel Imperato has repeated a refrain from his 2008 campaign: an offer to negotiate on behalf of the US.

According to a September 7th Financial Times article, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad said Iran was ready to submit a package of proposals to the five members of the UN Security Council and Germany but rejected a deadline for talks.

“Now that the elections are over in Iran, Saeed Jalili, the chief nuclear negotiator is able to tackle the thorny, less popular decision to engage the US and other western states regarding their energy future,” Imperato declared. Despite suggestions that failing to meet a deadline to begin talks would trigger a new round of UN sanctions, Imperato added, “It is unlikely that China and Russia will back another round of sanctions, so we need to make progress on talks now.”

For those unfamiliar with this self-appointed diplomat, Imperato emerged from humble Boston roots into a well-known, highly respected international businessman with unique vision of the foreign policy challenges that face the US government.

Considered newsworthy by all except a news media that refuses to cover anything “independent”, Imperato made similar offers to negotiate on behalf of the US during his campaign stops between 2005 and 2008.

Roll the tape on an eyebrow raising speech in January of 2006 where Imperato offered himself as negotiator with none other than Osama Bin Laden after the al-Quada leader suggested a truce. Noting that it was stated US policy not to negotiate with terrorists, Imperato pointed out that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was negotiating with both Hezbollah and Hamas over their disputes with Israel.

His campaign was full of predictions about US foreign policy positions that are still coming true. The recent Indian suggestion for nuclear talks with Pakistan was one of Daniel’s predictions three years ago. As far back as December 2005 he called for a revamped international watchdog system regarding the nuclear fuel cell cycle. A month later he accurately predicted the coming economic meltdown as the outcome desired by bin Laden and his allies to weaken US global dominance.

Now Imperato offers to be involved in the negotiations with Iran over their nuclear intentions. While Iran was being declared an exporter of terror by the previous Administration, it was Imperato who was reminding anyone who would listen how the Iranians covertly helped the US military action in Afghanistan. He made offers in March and November of 2007 to be dispatched to Tehran to discuss ways to quell the violence in Iraq.

So now he repeats the call, “President Obama, I ask you to involve me directly in the negotiations. We can start when the Iranian delegation visits the US, then I’ll go to Iran to continue the dialogue.”

From his home in West Palm Beach, FL, Imperato would not confirm rumors that he will be an independent candidate for Governor in 2010.
