Where is the evidence of anything happening in 2012, besides the mayan calendar?
Nasty answers arn't neccesary.
Plus, I NEVER said end of the world.
There is none. Its all in the minds of people who want something exciting to look forward to. And actually, the Mayan calendar doesn't actually end, it just restarts the cycles.
What does that mean? I don't know, the Chinese calendar just restarted a 600 year cycle in 2007 with the Golden Pig. Guess the Chinese calendar wasn't designed to predict the end of the world like the Mayan calendar.

Ok so let's get into this greater philosophy of the mayan calendar 2012 myth. The core of the mayan calendar 2012 myth is that on December 21st 2012 the world will come to an end via way of apocalyptic natural disasters, this was predicted by the ancient Mayan through the use of their seers and sages interpreting their own long count calendar, that in part was created through their own myths and legends and of course their own observations of nature and the celestial heavens.

The common link in all these predictions is of course the astronomical component, meaning that all these civilizations were adept sky watchers and had a great understanding of the universe around them and knew they were a part of it, they all meticulously watched the movements of the celestial bodies and took notes, and it was via way of the stars that the mayan calendar 2012 myth developed as well as all the other minor and major predictions that were made.
