Err.
The Mayans made no such prediction.
The full long count Mayan calendar is currently at baktun 12; there are still 8 baktuns (or about three thousand years) before it turns over.
The current Katun will increment about ten years from now (13.0.0.0.0 will be on December 21st, 2012). A discovery channel documentary for some insane reason took this to be a prediction of the end of the world - but this is a bit like saying the fact that we went from 1999 to 2000 or will go from 2010 to 2011 somehow signifies devastation on a huge scale. It is plain stupid.
Shame on you for just accepting the nonsense without doing any research.
