Nostradamus and 2012??? Religion and the Sun?
Ok so today I was watching the history channel. They were talking about Nostradamus and how he says the world is going to end. Then I thought about it. How he predicted stuff and it happened later on. Also, in many religions, they say the day it is the end of the world, the sun will be above our heads. It also brings in the 2012 prophecy. Then I did sum research on yahoo answers and many people said that it can't happen. What should I belive?? What do you think??
One needs to use caution and discretion when viewing these types of programs. Especially on the Discovery channel and the History channel which often uses artificial hype as an illusion of fact.
What we find when these programs are presented is the writer of the show ~ these are not scientific documentaries ~ creates this illusion by stating "did Nostradamus speak of doomsday in the year 2012 when he wrote...".
The unaware human brain will interpret this as "Nostradamus spoke of 2012 when he wrote...".
This is a commonly used trick to avoid denigration of facts by the true scholars who have attempted to interpret the Nostradamus quatrains.
Do not allow yourself to be deceived by this tactic. We must always remember that television writers need to put bread on their table and pay their house mortgage. Hype and fear tactics produce viewers and viewers in turn create advertising sales for the television station.
The truth is that Nostradamus was not a prophet. If you are able and willing to conduct proper research, you will find that I speak the truth. Nostradamus was French. He was an astrologer who attempted to create herbal concoctions which would heal persons of Europe during the Black Plague. His treatments failed. He even failed to save the lives of his own family.
Nostradamus was a student of prophets. In 1554, he translated prophesies already existing in Latin into French and titled the work 'The Prophesies of Michel Nostradamus'.
A better title would have been 'A Collection of Prophesies by Michel Nostradamus' as not a single prophesy in the book was his.
In 1554, laws against plagiarism did not exist. One could copy whatever they wanted from previous books and present the ideas as their own.
This is the surviving legacy of Nostradamus. Not original works but a collection of previously existing works. Scholars have proven this by locating the original books and transcripts which Nostradamus copied from.
You will find that during the course of Nostradamus' life, he always shunned and rejected being called a prophet.
These facts are often overlooked or ignored in today's society which has a tendency to want to believe that our world is not as we see it but something magical and mysterious. This is why supermarket tabloids sell so well when they have a bigfoot/alien baby on the front page or a cloud that looks like the face of Satan or God. These tv shows are no different.
The truth is that not a single Nostradamus quatrain speaks of the year 2012.
There does exist a quatrain which speaks of the year 1999. Ten years ago ~ perhaps you are too young to remember ~ this was hailed as the end of the world.
Young persons tend to hype 2012 as the end because they are not familiar with the theme that end of the world books (and tv shows) are a quick and easy way to make money from the uneducated and gullible. It also exists since there are no controls to prosecute those who dispel these vagrant lies over the internet. You will often find that 2012 websites proclaiming doom will not have the website author's name on the page. This is to avoid lawsuits from those who buy the books and t-shirts when 2013 rolls around.
There exist no scientific evidence for any of the doomsday scenarios. Without supportive proof for the conjectures, they can only be lies.
As you get older, you will understand the greed and corruption behind end of the world hoaxes.
So let's go over your question: Nostradamus only made one prediction in his life. On the night before his death, a gravely ill Nostradamus told his assistant that he (Nostradamus) would die that night. He did. If you wish to call this a vision, that's up to you. Nostradamus made no other predictions himself.
No religions speak of 2012 being the end of the world.
There is no existing 2012 prophesy.
