why is so much fascination with the end of the world in 2012?
so the mayans were so genius...and now they are crossing the border illegally to states...what happen? why to History channel takes so serious...not to mention Nostradamus...
don't forget in 1999, they were saying the end of the world...are we a self destructive creatures?
The only thing the History channel takes seriously is money and they don't care if they transmit lying and superstitious garbage to get it. People who know the facts about 2012 have been calling them the Hysteria channel for years.
Nostradamus is late medieval French gibberish. People have been lying about it for centuries. Anyone who quotes him is automatically a fool or a liar, probably both.
Ancient Mayans did not say the end of the world would come when their count of days reached a round figure by their counting system. It does not matter how good their astronomy was, using the positions of planets and the Sun to predict things like the end of the world is astrology which is superstitious garbage. The modern Mayans are sick of hearing about it, look for a news item about "Chile Pixtun" on the net.

If you want my opinion, certain sects claiming to the Christian have been predicting the end of the world soon for 170 years, more in some cases. The Watchtower Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) predicted this for nine different dates between 1914 and 1975. They will deny it but it's true. Others are almost as bad, there are dozens of failed prophecies from dozens of crackpot pastors going back into the 1950s right up to 2010 and 2011. Mostly they use numerology, which is a form of magic to base their calculations on the size of Noah's ark, or any other numbers that might be found in the Bible.
The practice of magic is specifically forbidden in the Bible. Either that or they go on about war, crime, famine etc but if you actually look at the actual facts you will find that world-wide, crime and famine are decreasing and the wars that are on now are mere skirmishes compared to the big wars of recent and even ancient history. Thus they are either ignorant or lying.
But this constant referral to the end of the world rubs off. Uninformed people start to think that these crackpots might be right, maybe not in detail but they have got something.
So when some liar posing as a scientist or a religious person gets up on it's hind legs and starts going on about 2012 then some people half-believe them, specially children who do not have the experience or knowledge to see that these people are liars or fools.
