nostradamus end of days

Why does History Channel feature "documentaries" stating the end of the world is on dec 21, 2012?
im watchin g it right now, its about the mayan prophecies. I watched the nostradamus segment and edgar cayce's segment, all pointing to 2012 asthe end, even the scientists agree to this, and they even say it is written in the bible, as a code (the bible code, and states that the end will be dec 21, 2012) however, not really the end, cause that day, christ will come and rule the earth for a 1000 years, the real end according to nostradamus is in 3000 AD, after the 1000 years of peace and the final end of the devil where all of us will be finally judged. any reactions to this?
Note the number of History Channel shows on ghosts, ufos, bigfoot and other nonsense. Hardly anything they put on the air can be taken seriously. Go ahead and buy a 2013 calendar. You'll get to use it.

Nostradamus Effect-1x9 Satan's Army 2/5
THE DAY THE EARTH WOULDN'T STAND STILL
I generally try to write only about things that I know, a rather safe approach to article writing. My specialty revolves around lung cancer, cancer treatment and things related to. Many other things in the world fascinate me though and I try to catch hold of and understand some of these thing before they flutter away like a butterfly on a summers day.
My latest fascination revolves around things like the Mayan calendar, Nostradamus predictions, the whole end of the world scenario which seems to be gathering momentum as 2012 approaches. It is for this reason that I am writing this article today not because I'm warning of the end of the world, even a blind dog could find that bone on his own, but because as I was chasing the ‘butterflies' in my mind, and finding myself more interested in why they fly then how they fly, I stumbled into a fact that amazes me and makes me a little uncomfortable at the same time.
Earthquakes, we have all been introduced to the tragedy in Haiti as well as Chile but did you know about the 3.2 magnitude quake in Alabama on the 6th of May? It was one of over 250, 2.5 or greater magnitude earthquakes reported in the last 7 days? Did you know about the twenty-five magnitude 5.0 quakes that have occurred. I did not, I did not read it in the paper, I did not see it on my TV. In fact, while I have been writing this article, today in the World, the USGS (United States Geographical Society) has reported that twenty nine earthquakes have occurred including a magnitude 5.3 off the coast of Sumatra. If you pulled up the number of earthquakes that have occurred since January first of 2010, you might find yourself trying to find a cave to hide in until the end of the world comes. Which I believe Nostradamus recommends.
Not so fast my nervous friend, take off the hardhat and sit back down at your desk, we need to talk about some things.
It is estimated that roughly 500,000 earthquakes occur every year. Out of those 100,000 are of a magnitude that can be felt. It's estimated that only about 100 of those will cause serious damage. I am in no means making light of the monumental death and destruction that a large earthquake is capable of as we have all been recently reminded, also let's not forget the victims of tsunamis (killer waves) spawned by earthquakes, this is all very serious stuff I am speaking of.
As of January of 2009 the USGS no longer locates anything below a M4.5 quake, so maybe that changes the way they report their stats, I don't know. It looks to me like we might be ahead of schedule as far as what was reported in 2009 and what has already occurred in 2010. As I was chasing this down on the internet, I ran into opinion that we are showing anywhere from 120% to over a 200% increase in the frequency of quakes over last year. I do not know that to be true. The USGS estimates over 225,000 fatalities from earthquakes this year, they are showing 1800 fatalities from 2009 and over 228,000 in 2004. Is all this normal? I don't know. Are we trending above normal, or do we just have more seismic reporting sensors out there in the world as some scientists claim so more quakes and shakes are being reported then ever before? I don't know.
So, what do I know?
I know that when I first found out how many earthquakes happen every day, I was dumbfounded. I thought immediately that information was being held from me, that there was some major Earth altering event taking place we were not supposed to be aware of. I wanted to get to the bottom of it.
I know that as I started to read about earthquakes and fault lines and the Mid Atlantic Ridge and the Pacific Antarctic Ridge and places like the Wasatch Range in Utah that sits on the Wasatch fault line which is capable of producing a 7.5 quake. By the way the largest earthquake ever reported in the United States was 9.2 magnitude on March 28th, 1964 in Prince William Sound, Alaska.
These Fault lines and shifting plates of Earth make up the entirety of the ground we stand on. Ever shifting, ever volatile. They bring things like Continental movement and help to usher in ice ages. They tear apart deep under the ocean and create new land or destroy civilizations.
I know that I'm not a scientist, that my opinion in this field holds no water. I'm just a guy chasing the occasional butterfly, wondering why.
I know that at the end of it all we will be the victims of the world around us. If it just so happens that it is due to some preordained cosmic mishap that changes the earth as we know, I'm ok with that. It is what it is. If we are experiencing an increase in global events such as earthquakes, and that is a precursor of what lies ahead, then there is nothing that is going to change that. But if this is all due to our own gross misuse of resources, our over indulgence in almost everything and our unwillingness to take ownership in the things that are happening, then shame on us. Here's another by the way for you, if you can't see climate change in the world around you then you are living with your head in a hole. Every time I hear one of these politician deny global warming, it makes me wonder why. Another butterfly to chase at a future time.
I know that places like Indonesia and Chile, places I didn't give a lot of thought to are frequently pounded by these events. I know that ninety earthquakes were registered across the Continental United States today alone. I know that there are some scary things happening under our oceans.
I know that the USGS can provide you with a ton of facts and figures at their website which is were I received my limited education on the subject, and I strongly suggest you seek places like this for knowledge and not rely on what you read in the paper or be content with what is or is not reported on the news.
I know that the day I typed the search phrase "earthquakes worldwide since Jan, 2010" into my computer, I was shocked by what I read and therefore read until I felt I understood. I know I will continue to read and watch and listen and hopefully continue to gain more knowledge and perspective.
I leave you with this thought. I'm sure if there was something to be concerned about, our government would tell us right away. Like they do with everything, but let's just say that we lived somewhere where things were purposely kept away from us by the media or a place where the government maybe had influence over certain forms of speech, or maybe were being influenced by third party interests to not make a big deal out of something like this. If you lived in a place like that, would you chase the butterflies?
It seems to me that the world is shaking and rumbling everyday. Is it more then normal or business as usual for the home planet? I don't know. End of the world? Haven't we been trying to predict that throughout the course of recorded history? Maybe it's the day the earth stops quaking that will be the truly scary occurrence.
