Where did the whole business of "The End Of The World on December 21st 2012" come from?
I've been doing some searching on the internet, I've yet to find anywhere that says anything bad is going to happen on that date. In fact, I've found the Mayan calender predicts a new era or even and age of enlightenment, not doom.
So who in the world began thinking that it's going to be the end of the world? Was it just people who jumped to conclusions? Or was it Nostradamus' prediction? Or is it just stupid people who come up with crazy scenarios and want to spread stupid stuff?
Back in 1966, author Michael D. Coe suggested that if the Mayans thought that the start of their Long Count calendar in 3114 BC represented the creation, did they think that the end of the world would come when the calendar reached its end in 2012? In fact, the calendar doesn't actually end, it clicks over to a new period. Other authors, such as Frank Waters and Jose Arguelles jumped on the disaster bandwagon in later books, despite the fact that scholars studying Mayan inscriptions can find no evidence that the Maya themselves believed that the end of the world would take place.
It really took off after the failed doomsday of 2000, when all the crackpots started looking for a new date for their doomsday predictions. Then there was the failure of Planet X to arrive in 2003. Just postpone it until 2012. Easy to do when you're talking about an imaginary object.
The result is the biggest load of garbage imaginable all heaped by assorted frauds and cranks on to one date. Not a single scrap of this has any scientific evidence behind it and hasn't the remotest chance of taking place.

in my short life i remember three different years that everyone thought the world would end. its all bs.
I think by now you know that graffy is a lunatic without the slightest grasp of history. For example he posted that the “Christian and Catholic” churches split of at the “Temple of NIcean” (sic). He has no clue what the Reformation was or that Catholics ARE Christians. I call his nonsense “History on Acid”. He thinks King James sat down and wrote the KJV and that there are million year old pyramids in China. Loony tunes.
