surviving december

I had been approved for SSD in December, got the letter from ssi over a month ago , still haven't heard a thin?
I have lost my residence and had to move out of state and lost everything I own, in order to survive. Why does it take so long to find out what you are going to get both retroactive and monthly, then when you will get it. I happen to desperately need this money to survive.
You should be aware that SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) and SSI (Supplemental Security Income) are two separate creatures. However, they are both administered by the Social Security Administration.
SSI payments are sometimes issued to a disabled person whose SSDI payments put them below the poverty line. If you qualify for SSI, you will be issued 2 monthly checks, one for SSDI and one for SSI.
Usually, if a person qualifies for both SSDI and SSI, the SSI will be received first. It generally takes 3-4 months after hearing of your approval before you receive *any* funds from either source. Before you receive any funds, you will be required to give yet another interview at the Social Security Office. If this interview has not yet been set up, you should call your nearest SSA office and ask for an appointment.
Here's a link to the official website of Social Security:
