Is anyone serious about the world ending in 2012?
Does anyone think that the world is going to end in 2012?
Or is it just a myth?
Some very unreliable people came up with the rather silly ideas about 2012, which include:
1) the world ending... no reason given (Mayans, from Jose Arguelles, who claims to be a reincarnated priest)
2) most of the world being destroyed, some enslaved (Nibiru, Zech Stitchin, who read this off a Sumerian toilet paper roll... well, not really, but the guy can't read the language, so don't tell him)
3) most of the world being destroyed, except a few that hitchhike with aliens (Planet X, Nancy Lieder, who frequently has conversations with the aliens, usually in dreams, although they once sent her a signal in a Starburst candy... no, I am NOT making that up)
4) the Earth goes poof, due to it crossing a equator of the Milky Way (no, I don't get this one, either)
5) the Earth goes poof, due to the Sun lining up with the center of the Milky Way (I am a complete blank on how this works, too)
6) the Earth goes poof, due to the Sun's "solar maximum" which although coming in early 2013, will somehow be early and... well... really big. (I think this one can be blamed on Michio Kaku, who really should know better than to predict the Sun TEN years early, now the predictions say "less than average" for 2012-3)
7) the Earth will be eaten by a Giant Space Squid. (this is mine, it is at least as likely as most, as I am as unreliable as most)
Read this site for a nice, quiet, rational explanation, with absolutely no Flying Saucers or ads selling psychotic drugs.

The World Is NOT Ending in 2012
Will the World End 2012 December 12th? - 3 Points leaning Towards Yes
A big question that tends to come around every great once in a while, always faithfully so, is will the world end in 2012 on December 12. I know that at first glance at a subject like this the urge to just kind of laugh it off gets stunted really quick when certain facts are presented. There are actual scientific pillars in the community of academia who support this very belief.
I can think of at least three major ordeals explained by professionals all set out to occur on or around 2012.
Number One: N.A.S.A. was mentioned in the news as being believers in certain possibilities that can have devastating effects on this entire planet. There is an immense amount of data, involving astronomy and astrology(among many other things) that proclaims disaster to our earth. There are no specifics commented on as you can be sure but plenty of implications in various areas of expertise.
The Planet X or 'Nibiru' is expected to come seriously close to, or even possibly directly hit, our immediate solar system between the years 2010-2012. Ultimately causing irreparable damage to all the magnetic and gravitational forces keeping us in balance. This is bad news indeed. It certain would cause drastically immense change in our weather patterns.
Thats only the beginning of a very long list of astronomical threats to our existence. There is also the matter of the poles in which where noted to shift every five thousand years approximately.
Number Two: Charles Hapgood speculates that the masses of ice gathering around both the poles of our planet are slowing building to an excess that will eventually cause a disproportionate change in our planets' rotation. This theory however radical at the time was recently confirmed as having actually occurred 800 million years ago. The pole-shifts are supposedly, extremely gradual causing minor changes.
Number Three: Solar Flares - Our suns energy repeats an eleven year cycle, in which magnetic forces build into a kind of surge of energy producing bursts or 'Solar Flares," This is where solar activity is at its maximum strength and the magnetic flux in which contains the suns rays will be opened up. Well due to the time frame all coming of course in the year 2012.
This all occurs way too far from us to cause us any immediate damage. However, the real worry is that our satellites might be in danger. This may knock out some of our security and communications signals. This is an awful lot already without even beginning to mention all the metaphysical and mystical involvements. This has also been predicted by Egyptians & Mayans of ancient history.
