2012 The world will end??....Ive been thinking...?

So since many of the things that the Mayans have said have already come true--i mean i don't believe the world will end-- but with all these earthquakes happening. The world ending means that we will just have to start all over. chile has to start over and mother nature will take over...dosent anyone think that the myans meant that we would have to rebuild our lives over?
Get what i mean?

Apparently you haven't been thinking very clearly. The Maya made NO prediction about 2012. In fact, they weren't in the business of prophecy. I would very much like to see you post one prediction made by the Maya, let alone one that came true.

Millions of earthquakes happen every year just as they have done for billions of years. They are not increasing in frequency or magnitude. The highest magnitude earthquake ever measured was in 1960, a 9.5 on the Richter scale in Chile.

2012 is still a hoax. That isn't going to change.

Meaning of Earthquakes? End of the World?

  • Nostradamus never mentioned 2012 in any of his writings. That is just made up as is all the 2012 doomsday garbage. It has all been invented by a bunch of screwballs in the last 20 years or so. As for your apartment building, I guess that would depend on whether it was built to withstand earthquakes. It should be if it was built in 1990, but I don't know how strong an earthquake any particular building will withstand.

6.1-6.9 is classified as a strong quake, which can be destructive in areas up to about 100 kilometers across where people live. There are around 120 quakes in this range per year. People have been talking about "The Big One" for California throughout my life. It is all speculation.

There is no reason to be concerned about earthquakes in 2012 any more than any year in history. The number and magnitude of earthquakes is not increasing. Our ability to detect them is greatly increasing. They are also being reported by the news media more rapidly and covered more widely.
Earthquakes of the magnitude of the Haiti and Chile quakes happen on the average 2 to 3 times per year. It is just coincidence that these two occurred closely together.

"The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year. Many go undetected because they hit remote areas or have very small magnitudes. The NEIC now locates about 50 earthquakes each day, or about 20,000 a year.

As more and more seismographs are installed in the world, more earthquakes can be and have been located. However, the number of large earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 and greater) has stayed relatively constant.

A partial explanation may lie in the fact that in the last twenty years, we have definitely had an increase in the number of earthquakes we have been able to locate each year. This is because of the tremendous increase in the number of seismograph stations in the world and the many improvements in global communications. In 1931, there were about 350 stations operating in the world; today, there are more than 8,000 stations and the data now comes in rapidly from these stations by electronic mail, internet and satellite. This increase in the number of stations and the more timely receipt of data has allowed us and other seismological centers to locate earthquakes more rapidly and to locate many small earthquakes which were undetected in earlier years. The NEIC now locates about 20,000 earthquakes each year or approximately 50 per day. Also, because of the improvements in communications and the increased interest in the environment and natural disasters, the public now learns about more earthquakes.

According to long-term records (since about 1900), we expect about 17 major earthquakes (7.0 – 7.9) and one great earthquake (8.0 or above) in any given year."
