Is the 2012 End of the World Prediction True?
I am a 13 yr old boy and i am very curious and im also very scared. Should i be worried or not? HELP ME!
No, the 2012 "end of the world" hoax is not true.
Its not a prediction, its a pile of trash started by some crackpots in 2003 - apparently, aliens told them the world would end in 2003 through brain implants (riiiight).
Nothing happened ("oh sorry, we must have got the wrong date") and there they were, with books and survival kits and foil hats and no way to sell them.
The ancient Mayans created a number of calendars, and one (the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar) happens to click over to a new cycle on 12/21/2012.
If someone doesn't know anything about the calendar, then all they had to say was "the ancient Mayans, who were very wise and knew more about the cosmos than we do, ended their calendar. So they must have meant the world would end as well".
So they started this hoax, but it wasn't catching on. Then they added a bunch of scientific words that sounded real (no facts or anything), like "galactic alignment", "rogue planet", "pole shifts" – all sound good and since no one ever researches anything they were safe.
An lo, a hoax is born.
