What does the year 2012 have to bring?
What dose the 12th planet, the year 2012 and the Sumerians mean?
1. There is no 12th planet. As currently defined, there are eight planets in the solar system and up to 40 dwarf planets, new dwarf planets are turning up all the time. All the dwarf planets are a very long way out and are staying there.
2. The myth that there was a 10th planet called Nibiru was started by Zecharia Sitchin about 1969, based on his "special" reading of Sumerian clay tablets. At the time Pluto was still classified as a planet and nothing was known about the other dwarf planets, which have only been discovered in the past few years by genuine astronomers. This was his attempt to cash in on the "gods were ancient alien astronauts" idea published in "Chariots of the Gods" the previous year by another fake, Erich von something-or-other. Sitchin is not a professional scholar of the Sumerians or their successors the Babylonians. The genuine scholars point out that Nibiru according to the real, not misinterpreted myths was the domain of the Babylonian god Marduk and was usually identified with the planet Jupiter, but sometimes maybe, with Mercury.
3. Sitchin claimed that this planet Nibiru enters the inner solar system every 3600 or 3700 years and is inhabited by Annunaki or Nepthilim who created humans by breeding them from apes, so that humans could mine gold for them. This is a distortion of the Sumerian creation myth in which the gods created humans because they had got tired of doing the work of the world themselves. Sitchin also claims a particular clay plaque VA243 has a representation of the solar system with 10 planets. The central symbol is said by Sitchin to represent the Sun. All the real scholars say that the symbol is used to mean "star" in all other places.
4. The orbit of a planet that only enters the inner solar system every 3600 years must be very elongated, even Sitchin agrees with that. Such an orbit is highly unstable and at some time in the past near encounters with the gas giants Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune or Uranus would have either ejected Nibiru from the solar system altogether or less probably turned it into a regular inner system planet. Apart from that, if this rogue planet had been in the inner system in historical or late prehistorical times it would have disturbed the orbits of Earth, Venus, Mercury or Mars and they would take many thousands of years to settle down again. There is no sign of such disturbance.
5. How a space faring civilisation can develop on a planet that would be frozen solid for 3585 of every 3600 years beats me.
6. Sitchin claims that Nibiru will not be in the inner solar system until after 2085, so Nibiru has nothing to do with 2012.
7. Planet X is a different fake planet invented by Nancy Lieder in the mid 1990s. You can find out about her on Wikipedia, but she claimed it would pass through the inner solar system once in May 2003. Oops. When it didn't happen it got postponed to 2012 to fit in with the lies about the Mayan long count of days so certain people could keep making money out of it.
8. All the stories about 2012 are money-making frauds, the Mayan long count recycles, it does not end and the Mayans did not predict anything much, specially not the end of the world since they did predict that one of their kings would be remembered in out 48th century. You can't have people to remember the king in 47whatever if the world ends in the 21st century.
